00 an hour Facilities and Grounds Caretaker Job Description About Key Peninsula Civic Center The Key Peninsula Civic Center (KPCC) is at the heart of the Key Peninsula community.
Many local organizations call this facility home either as full-time tenants, or for meetings, events, and fundraisers.
Individuals and families also find the Civic Center a convenient and affordable option for weddings, memorials, skate parties, and more.
The Key Peninsula Civic Center Association (KPCCA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the welfare of the Key Peninsula community and citizens, and to encouraging civic consciousness through active participation in constructive projects that improve our community.
As a volunteer-led organization, we have limited staff positions, so staff are an extra important part of our success in the community.
Our team forms a tight-knit, collaborative group of professionals who are passionate about ensuring that the Center delivers on its mission statement for our community and its citizens.
The Role The Caretaker is the face of the Civic Center, one of three people most guests hear from or see when interacting with us, so a friendly, calm demeanor and the ability to form strong relationships in the community is very important.
This person is responsible for the overall appearance, cleanliness and operations of our historic building and grounds, as well as the safety and security of the building, grounds and all those who use them.
This is an hourly position consisting of 30 hours per week, spread over five days (negotiable for coverage with our Maintenance Technician).
There is an on-site apartment that may be made available to the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities The responsibilities of the Caretaker include but are not limited to the below, and are executed in cooperation and collaboration with our Maintenance Technician, who works 20 hours per week:
Customer facing Meet and greet facility renters in a positive, professional, friendly manner.
Provide them information about their rental (lights, skate room, sound booth, kitchen use, etc.
), and set out our expectations of them (be out by a specific time, clean up after themselves, etc.
) After each rental, check that expectations were met; if not, document discrepancies with the Operations Manager (this impacts the renter's deposit return) Maintain professional working relationships with staff and volunteers, including Board and committee member volunteers Be available in person and by phone to answer questions from and support community members, renters, staff, and volunteers in their use of the facility Act as on-site point of contact for contractors and facility vendors and deliveries Maintenance and facilities Maintain the cleanliness of the facility with full daily cleanings and spot-checks between events, including mopping/vacuuming floors (including wooden gym floor), dusting, cleaning bathrooms, and sanitizing commercial kitchen Ensure all facility equipment (generator, boiler, fire systems, kitchen appliances, HVAC system, and other vital systems, as well as vacuum cleaners, sinks, faucets, drains, and lawn tools) are operational Conduct necessary repairs to the facility, including furniture, flooring, roofs, gutters, walls, shelves, ceiling, duct work, painting and other structural repairs as needed Perform general repairs/maintenance such as replacing light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, breakers, ballasts, light fixtures, electrical outlets, switches as needed Maintain sufficient inventory of all facility-related items such as cleaning, bathroom and kitchen supplies, maintenance tools and supplies, etc.
Grounds Ensure the grounds are litter free Regularly edge and mow the lawn, weed, etc Maintain the cleanliness and conduct necessary repairs to the picnic shelter, playground equipment, parking areas, and tennis courts Security Lock and unlock gates and doors daily to assure KPCC is open to the public between 8am-9pm Conduct regular security sweeps throughout the day to ensure tenants, staff, renters and volunteers are able to use the facility safely If on-site, act as overnight point of contact for security incidents Other Prepare Grounds & Maintenance report for monthly Board meetings in collaboration with the First Vice President of the Board, who oversees Grounds & Maintenance Collaborate with the 1st VP to maintain a pipeline of projects, including capital projects, and to prioritize these within the scope of all other duties Provide necessary reporting on Grounds & Maintenance for grant applications, private and company sponsorships Qualifications and Skills Required 3
years of custodial and facility management experience A friendly, calm, professional demeanor, and strong customer relationship management skills Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with staff and volunteers Ability and desire to maintain friendly, professional relationships with a wide range of people and personality types Ability to balance many activities, projects, requests, and tasks simultaneously Strong communication skills Desired Passion for supporting the wellbeing of a small rural community and its citizens, and maintaining a historic building and grounds for their use Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus Other Organizational Context The Civic Center has approximately ten staff members, including an operations manager, operations coordinator, maintenance technician, Friday Night Skate and kitchen staff, and yoga instructors.
The Executive Committee is made up of the President, Past President, 1st and 2nd Vice Presidents, Treasurer, Secretary and two members at large.
The Board consists of the Executive Committee and up to 30 additional members, all volunteers who live or work on the Key Peninsula.
Pay and Benefits Pay ranges from $16.
28-$25 per hour commensurate with experience.
As a small nonprofit, we are not able to offer health benefits, but we do offer paid vacation, sick leave, and six paid holidays per year.
